Yellow Jalebi : “Ah, there’s Gulab Jamun. It looks so pretty. It doesn’t look irregular and all over the place like me. It looks so confident in its skin. I mean, look at it. So delicious and dainty yet so humble! But I am sour and no one likes me. Everybody loves it. I wish I looked and tasted like Gulab Jamun.” it thought.

Gulab Jamun : “Oh no, Jalebi is here. I feel insecure. Look at it go. Bright, swirly, and oh so appetising! It is crunchy yet soft and sweetness oozes out of it with a hint of sourness! It possesses a good mix of everything and people love it! And I? I look so dim. So small and unappealing. People hate to eat me with their hands cause I am sticky. I make a mess. Ah, I wish I looked and tasted like Jalebi.” it thought.

Were you able to relate to this dialogue? Well, you are not alone! Almost all of us compare ourselves with each other (almost on a daily basis) and those of us who don’t, have come a long way to overcome this.

When we compare ourselves with others, we waste our time thinking unrealistic and illogical thoughts. And these thoughts (almost) never leave us at peace. But we can change this outlook if we try!

Believe that no one is perfect and start accepting yourself with your strengths and shortcomings (but make sure to work on those flaws that you can change). stay away from social media or certain accounts that might set off your self-defeating thoughts. Or, maybe, you can stop comparing by getting inspired instead!

It is said that when we feel jealous about someone's quality, it means that we want to bring that quality out of our self! so there is a chance that this feeling of ‘envy’ might motivate you!

Someone who doesn’t compare themselves with others is less likely to be hateful and doubtful about themselves. Often, mental health conditions stem from low self-esteem or from the feeling that one is not worthy enough. a person who does not compare themselves to others, appreciates and is grateful for what they have. They feel fulfilled and they embrace their individuality.

Know that someone's beauty, talent or achievement won't diminish what you have. You are unique in your own beautiful way!

And, as for the question, is Gulab Jamun really better than Jalebi? Well maybe, they are lovely and delicious in their own ways!
